What is a One-Click Acceptance?
Understanding One-Click Acceptance in E-commerce
Quick Definition
One-click acceptance is when a shopper says yes to an extra offer with a single click, without filling in a form or typing their payment details again. You'll see it most often right after checkout, where the added item is charged to the payment method the buyer just used. That click is the buyer's clear, active yes.
What Happens When a Buyer Clicks Yes
Some Shopify stores show one more offer after checkout, right before the thank you page. The buyer's address and payment details are already in by then, so all the offer needs is a button. A click adds the item to the order and charges it to the same payment method. If they'd rather skip it, they just move on to the thank you page. Apps add this step through Shopify's post-purchase checkout extension.
Example: A Rain Cover After a Backpack
Say someone pays for a $52 hiking backpack. The next screen offers them a $9 rain cover that fits it.
- Without one-click acceptance: they'd have to go back to the store, put the cover in a new cart, check out again and retype their card number. That's a second order, and maybe a second shipping fee.
- With one-click acceptance: they tap "Add to my order" and the cover joins the order they just placed, on the same payment method.
It's the same product at the same price either way. What's different is how much work it takes to say yes.
Easy to Say Yes Doesn't Mean They Will
We checked our offer data from 250 stores (66M offers, January to June 2026). Post-purchase offers were accepted 6% of the time, so roughly 94 of every 100 buyers still said no. That's an average across very different stores and offers, and it wasn't a controlled test. Use it as a rough guide.
One click takes away the typing. It won't make a weak offer worth buying, though. The offer is still what wins the yes: an item that goes with what they just bought, at a price that feels small next to the order. Our guide to one-click upsells on Shopify covers how to build an offer that's worth the click.
Where the Term Shows Up
Strictly, it means the yes after payment that we just described. People also use it more loosely for any single-tap add, like an order bump checkbox inside checkout or a one-click add to cart button on a product widget.
It's easy to mix this up with a one-click upsell. One-click acceptance is the action, the single click that says yes. The one-click upsell is the offer that click accepts.
Growth Suite, our Shopify app, uses one-click acceptance in its post-purchase upsell funnels, so buyers can take the offer after checkout without entering payment details again. Its product recommendation widgets have one-click add to cart too.
A Pre-Ticked Box Isn't One-Click Acceptance
Some stores add an extra item using a box that's already checked. Unless the buyer spots it and unticks it, they pay for it. That's zero clicks, not one. The buyer never said yes, and finding the charge later can feel like a trick. It can also lead to refund requests.
A yes button that hides the price has the same problem. If you want the click to mean something, show the product, the price and a clear "No thanks" before the buyer taps.
